Riley Hamshaw-Mills(He/Him) is an experimental performance artist/comedian/poet/sound artist/fingers-in-all-creative-pies guy from the Sea, based in Norwich. His work ranges from all different aspects of performance including live art, installations, cabaret and devised performance. Most of his work tends to take an multidisciplinary approach, with the genres he works in, blurring the lines on what performance can look and feel like. Thematically, Riley does not shy away from any topic. Previous works have included mental health, working class issues and community identities, but he is always wanting to use his art to continue exploring more narratives. He is particularly interested in how temporality intercepts with art, so a lot of his work takes a durational approach. Within these durational concepts, there tends to lie an underlining element of improvisation that he encourages. Most recently, Riley has been a part of Emergency 23 and 24, at the Contact Theatre in Manchester with ‘Flang’ and ‘Fleaballs’, two separate part-durational part-performance-pieces. Martin Martyn, Riley’s comedy absurd ballad-singing character, has also been seen in various variety nights across London. Currently, Riley is in the works for creating a new experimental performance night in Norwich to promote local emerging talent in the Norfolk County.
